Jim Furyk edges Luke Donald to win Tour Championship

Monday, September 27, 2010
American Jim Furyk held off England's Luke Donald in heavy rain to win the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup.

Furyk went into the final day with a one-stroke lead over Donald and Retief Goosen, and a closing round of 70 took him to a winning mark of eight under.

Donald shot a 70 to finish one stroke back alongside Goosen, with Englishman Paul Casey on five under.

Tee times were brought forward because of the weather forecast but play was still interrupted for two hours.

Nick Watney threatened an incredible victory with a 63, and from seven over par after seven holes of his third round the American played the next 20 holes in 14 under.

Furyk bogeyed the opening hole but got back on track with three birdies, and bogeys on 16 and 17 failed to derail him as he got up and down from a bunker on the last.

The victory sees Furyk win the overall FedEx Cup play-off series and a total prize of over £7m.
